(ANA-MPA) -- Greece remains the most popular tourist destination for Serbian holiday makers, according to figures provided recently by the Serbian National Association of Travel Agencies (YUTA).
 A survey showed that 59 pct prefer Greece for their summer holidays, followed by Spain (13 pct), Turkey (10 pct), Egypt (8 pct) and Montenegro (3 pct). Croatia, which used to be the most popular tourist destination for Serbian tourists, received only 1 pct.According to the survey, Serbian tourists regard Greece as a safe and inexpensive destination. This summer season, a majority of Serbian visitors said they will spend their vacation in Halkidiki, northern Greece, while amongst the other most popular destinations are the islands of Corfu in the Ionian Sea and Thassos in the northern Aegean. In Thassos is held from today until Saturday the 15th of September, the 8th International Convention of Astronomy, that the Greek Astronomical Company and Dimokriteio University Thrace organise. This year's convention is dedicated in the anniversary of 50 years from the exploration of Space, in other words from the day that Sputnik was sent into Space, the first artificial satellite that went in orbit around earth. An ambitious enough program with events of all types will be included at the Thassos Festival which will last from 30th June up to 29th August. Totally, there have been prepared 30 events for the duration of the two months of summertime, from which the 10 are guest groups. Regarding arts, the report of arts have already begun in the room of Kalogerikou of Thassos town (Limenas) and will be continued until autumn. posted on Jun 13, 2007
George Bush the elder, is in Thassos from yesterday, in the range of cruises he is making in the Greek islands. Mr Bush reached Monday morning in the airport of Chrysoupolis and from there he was transported with strict measures of safety in the harbour of Nea Peramou where he had already sailed into from the Weekend, in the luxurious cruiseship of the Latsis family, Turama.
The harbour and police measures were very big. Beyond the small “army” the former president of the USA, many police and harbour authorities of the region will discreetly protect the harbour region in the Ormo Eleutheron and the wider marine region in the gulf of Kavala and followingly in northern Aegean. Mr Bush and his escorts, a few hours after their arrival in the Turama, left for a cruise in the northern Aegean. The first days include a tour around Thassos and already the luxurious ship was seen in the open sea of the southern island. The former leader of the world will remain in Greece up to 14th of June, while in his program, according to journalistic information, is also included a worship visit in Mount Athos. It is noted that Mr Bush had come once again in Kavala in August 2004, when he had arrived in our country in order to watch the Start ceremony and certain events of the Athens Olympic Games. And then, had been followed the same program of hospitality, while the prefecture of Kavala constitutes the first stop of reception and the point of departure of Mr Bush for the USA. On the 14th or 15th of June will be presented in Kavala the events program of this year's Thassos Festival, which is organized by the Municipality of the island. The organizing passed from "forty waves" because the known problems that resulted from -the unheaded until now- municipal enterprise of tourism and culture of Thassos Municipality.
On the island will be hosted this year 14 events, from which 6 theatrical presentations that will go up in the Ancient Theatre of Limenas. The most standing out musical event will be the concert of Giannis Parios.
The events begin on the 30th of June and will be completed in the end of August. Their cost is calculated to be 300.000 Euros, without still being clarified the precise height of sponsorings by institutions of State, which gave on the one side promises, not however and their signatures…
